About art therapy

Art therapy combines simple, inviting art supplies, with lots of support and encouragement from a qualified art therapist, to help individuals discover and explore thoughts and feelings.

Art therapy is helpful for:

  • improving self esteem
  • reducing anxiety and negative feelings
  • processing grief and loss
  • releasing anger
  • increasing confidence
  • enhancing creativity
  • and much more!

What to expect

As an art therapist, I provide a safe and encouraging space that helps clients feel comfortable expressing themselves creatively using inviting materials such as clay, paints, pastels and a variety of craft supplies.

When we are able to connect with our authentic selves through the creative process, and we feel truly seen and accepted, healing and growth naturally occur.

Colleen Sheridan B.A., D.V.A.T.I.

About me:

I’m Colleen Sheridan, an artist and professional art therapist with a passion for working with clients to enhance their well-being.

I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, anger, grief and loss, attention difficulties, and life transitions such as divorce and relocation, as well as providing recreational therapeutic art-making classes that focus on making art for personal well-being.

I completed my art therapy schooling through the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute in 2015, and hold a post-graduate diploma in Art Therapy.

In addition, I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology from the University of British Columbia.

I offer both art therapy services as well as wellness-art programing through the West Point Grey Community Center.

“I have seen first hand, as a Student Support Worker who works with children with special needs, how positively the kids responded to Colleen’s patient, flexible, thoughtful, and creative approach.”

“As a Clinical Counsellor who works with children and families, I worked with Colleen for 3 years while she completed her practicum for the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. She is a kind, calm and compassionate person who made the children feel heard and understood through the medium of art. As a counsellor, I highly recommend Colleen and her fun, hands-on approach to counselling through art.”
